Tokyo Ghoul Episode 03: Dove

The episode starts with someone coming into a doctor’s office asking him to make him “another thing” as he lost the other. For some reason, the doctor’s wife and daughter were hiding from this person at the same office. After the Opening, we’re back at Anteiku with Yoshimura teaching Kaneki how to do coffee. Then we see Hideyoshi visiting the café. After he leaves, Ryouko and Hinami, the mother and daughter from the beginning, come and refuge into Anteiko. After this, we move on into what seems to be a reunion with Ghoul Investigators where Mado and Amon are in. During this meet up, it’s reported that District 20 of Tokyo is becoming now more active, then Mado and Amon report that they found a medical wrench made of quinque steel at the place where Rize and Jason fought. After this, Mado and Amon get permission to investigate District 20 freely. Then, we return to Yoshimura now teaching Kaneki how to pretend to eat in front of humans. Next is when Yoshimura asks Kaneki to go “food shopping” which actually means go into a cliff where people suicide regularly and take a corpse with Yomo. The next day, Touka goes with Kaneki to Uta’s place in order to make him a mask so he can keep his identity from the Ghoul Investigators, also known as Doves. The last minutes of this episode is about Kaneki and Hinami establishing a friendship bond by teaching her how to read some words. The episode ends up with a new character coming into Anteiku. The rest of the episode was about Mado and Amon hitting and asking ghouls if they saw a similar wrench anywhere.

After all that happened in this episode, I’m assuming that the guy who goes to the doctor’s office is Jason asking the doctor to give him another wrench. This wrench seems to be important, especially since Mado and Amon report it as a tool made of quinque steel and they ask ghouls if they have seen similar tools like this. Since the quinque tool is given so much relevance, I think quinque weapons are to ghouls what silver bullets are to werewolves, as we saw that regular steel can’t hurt ghouls like we saw when Kaneki tries to stab himself back in 1^st episode.

Another thing it’s revealed is that the Ghoul Investigators are also known as Doves or Suitcase carriers. During all the scenes where Mado and Amon are looking for ghouls, we can’t see what type of weapon they use to attack. My theory is that they carry some quinque weapon inside this suitcases, as we can see the suitcase flying away while Mado is attacking a ghoul.

To finish, I really hoped to finally see Kaneki with his ghoul mask at the end of the episode but instead, it ended up introducing a new character which I’m assuming he is the Gourmet that Mado mentioned, as his clothing and attitude are fitting for a gourmet type of man. Now, let’s wait till 4^th episode to see Kaneki’s mask.
