It’s finally here! Sword Art Online is one
of my favorite action/romantic anime series of all time (although romance is
almost 80% of first season). I’ve read the Phantom Bullet Arc (5th
and 6th light novels of the series) about one year and a half ago
and once I saw Seijirou Kikuoka appearing on the Sword Art Online Special
Edition, aired on the past New Year, I knew something big was going to be
announced after the Special.
During the Special, Seijirou Kikuoka was a
big hint for those who read the light novels as in them he is described as a
man who likes sweet food. On the Special, they show Kikuoka throwing a lot of
sweets on the table, something that novel readers recognized because in the beginning
of 5th light novel (and now on first episode of second season),
Kirito and Kikuoka meet up on this fancy and expensive dessert store.

Footage from SAO Special Edition |
For those who missed the action on first
season because of romance, SAO II will be full of action, shoots and a f*cking
light saber! And for those who will miss the romance, I’m sorry. But don’t
worry, we will get to see Asuna, Yui and all the ALO crew sometimes!
Okay! Enough talking (for now). Let’s LINK START!

So this episode was basically 49%
Kirito x Asuna, 49%Kirito x Kikuoka and 2% Sinon. But it's okay, it's normal
for a 1st episode to introduce the arc and since it's the return for SAO, I
enjoy it so much. For those who missed Kirito and Asuna, this was the perfect
beginning for the season as well as necessary.
The adaptation is good so far,
paying attention to little details like the expensive desserts, the old ladies
or Death Gun doing a sign before shooting Zexceed (I don’t remember if the
little girl who looks like Yui appears on the novel).
Talking about Death Gun’s sign, he’s supposed to do the Christian cross sign
before shooting anyone but in the anime he just does something similar, which I
found logic since it’s a TV show. Just for the animation Company to not get in trouble
for diffusing any belief.
I expected Phantom Bullet to have
16-18 episodes, but it has been confirmed to be 24 episodes long. Since Phantom
Bullet is one of the shortest arc, knowing last season packed 4 light novels in
only 25 episodes, I’m a little bit afraid for the second season to be a little
bit slow (2 novels in almost the same number of episodes as 1st
season).
I
thought about Mother’s Rosario (7th light novel) to be animated during
the second half of the anime but it’s most likely not since this one is more
focused on Asuna and I see it’s ending not fitting for the season. But I really
want it to be animated, but not in this season. Maybe another New Year’s Special?
Another option is to
animate Caliber, chapter 2 from Early and Late (8th light novel).
Just this one, as Early and Late features side stories from the past. It would
be interesting to see how Sinon enters the ALO crew after the Phantom Bullet
Arc as she is the main female protagonist of the season. But still the most probable
one is 2nd season to be entirely dedicated to Phantom Bullet.
To finish, I expected to see more
of Sinon on this episode as she is my favorite character of all the series. But
I find it normal being the opening episode of the season.
I may not have seen so much of
Sinon, but the action along with the epicness and the beautiful scenarios and
music that SAO has, all of this is yet to come. SAO II HYPE!
